How do we develop great leaders in the organisation?

What makes a leader great?

These are often in the minds of business owners/CEOs thinking about leadership development. Leaders are essential for the growth and sustainability of an organisation.

In our years of experience and research, leaders can be developed on two sets of skills:

1. Transactional / Managerial

2. Transformational

Depending on the situation, both leadership styles are necessary and important.

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.

— John F. Kennedy

TRANSACTIONAL/MANAGERIAL LEADERSHIP

Transactional also known as managerial leadership focuses on tasks and employee performance. Rewards and punishments are often used to produce compliance and desired behaviours.

This leadership style is effective for task oriented project, crisis/emergency situations.

TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP

A transformational leader goes beyond managing day-to-day operations, department or work team to the next level of performance and success.

Transformational leadership styles focus on team-building, motivation and collaboration with employees at different levels of an organization to accomplish change for the better.
