Supporting Employee Performance Management and Development and Company Growth

Fujitsu is a leading provider of IT-based business solutions for the global marketplace. With approximately 160,000 employees supporting customers in 70 countries, Fujitsu combines a worldwide corps of systems and services experts with highly reliable computing and communications products and advanced microelectronics to deliver added value to customers.

Fujitsu (Asia) Pte Ltd saw continuous development of the organisation in terms of holistic growth in all aspects. In 2006, senior management explored ways to improve the organisation’s performance management system and processes to become an open system in order to maintain employee motivation. However, a paradigm shift in mindset and requisite skills were required to facilitate transformation of the system and establishment of new appraisal guidelines.

Fujitsu (Asia) turned to PACE to meet its purpose and objectives. However, PACE consultants soon encountered their first challenge. They had to educate and convince Fujitsu (Asia) on the importance of undertaking an Organisation Development (OD) journey so as to set the stage for transforming the performance management system and processes in a holistic manner to boost employee morale. Likewise, the senior management team must also ensure alignment among the organisational vision, its mission and its corporate values in order to lead their employees towards desired strategic outcomes. Nevertheless, this was no easy feat for both Fujitsu (Asia) and PACE. Although performance management was crucial, Fujitsu (Asia) was more concerned about managerial and leadership capability because managers were seen as role models so they had to be acquainted with the desired behaviours demanded of them in order to lead effectively. To address their client’s immediate needs, PACE consultants designed, developed and delivered a series of customised facilitation workshops on performance management and management development to build management excellence in Fujitsu (Asia).

The OD workshops conducted by PACE were reported to be so popular with Fujitsu (Asia) managers and employees that places were filled up rapidly every time a PACE workshop was arranged. Many managers and employees found the experiential approach used in the workshops highly effective because they could easily apply their learning outcomes back in the workplace.

The OD workshops were reported to have helped develop Fujitsu (Asia) staff to become more responsible in their jobs and take charge of their career development, thereby easing the transformation process of its performance management system.

Through its partnership with PACE, Fujitsu (Asia) senior management had expressed its belief in the value of training as a strong contributor to organisation and people excellence.

“This is definitely a very positive experience because I am looking for a learning partner that knows my needs and PACE knows my needs. Confidence in the facilitator secures our partnership.”
